Happy Day was founded on June 28, 2012 by the United Nations General Assembly.

“At this time of grave injustices, devastating wars, mass displacement, grinding poverty and other manmade causes of suffering, the International Day of Happiness is a global chance to assert that peace, well-being and joy deserve primacy.” —  UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon 

At Metrics, we take happiness seriously and each year we take the time to celebrate Happy Day. Recognizing that it is a key element of a well balanced life, we have ingrained happiness into our business strategy by making it one of our core values. On Friday, we handed out free coffee and Timbits outside of our office in Victoria to spread some early happiness! We also took time as a team to check in with each other to ensure that our business and personal lives are balanced, we had lunch together, spent time as as team to succeed at Epic Escape Victoria and then blew off some much needed tax season steam at a local pub. Happiness!

We also recognize that helping others and giving back is a huge part of our pledge to be happy members of our business and community. We give back in time, money, and pro-bono services regularly. All employees are required to contribute volunteer time and are supported by our CEO and staff to find meaningful volunteer opportunities in the community. Collectively, our team volunteers for numerous community events and initiatives throughout the year including, but not limited to, Dance Victoria, Tour de Victoria, Lawn Summer Nights, and Junior Achievement of British Columbia.

As accountants, our work lives can be extremely busy and it is easy to lose the internal focus that helps maintain a work-life balance. By celebrating Happy Day we try to highlight the importance of happiness throughout the year to ensure that our staff are living a great life!
